Moldova 2020 apple harvest notably lower than forecasts

Recent calculations from several organisations of agricultural producers -working with the Ministry of Agriculture of Moldova and local authorities- showed that this year’s Moldovan apple production amounted to approximately 430,000 tons (plus or minus 20,000 tons).

At the start of this summer, experts from farmers and traders associations predicted that the 2020 harvest of apples in Moldova would be at least 530,000 tons. In October, however, the forecast was reduced to 500,000 tons after the harvesting in apple orchards crossed the halfway point for this season.

In 2019, according to the assessment of agricultural producers associations, the apple harvest in the Republic of Moldova was 595,000 tons (over 600,000 tons according to official statistics). At the end of 2020, data from the National Bureau of Statistics of the Republic of Moldova on apple production is likely to differ significantly from the expert estimates of non-governmental organizations.
