Allowing exports up to 10,000 tons

Indian government eases onion export policy

Today, the Indian federal government amended its export policy for onions in order to allow the shipment of up to 10,000 tons of two types of onions up to March 31, 2021. Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) issued a notification allowing the export of Bangalore Rose Onions and Krishnapuram onions.

The DGFT announced: "DGFT vide Notification No. 39 dated 09.10.2020 has allowed export of Bangalore Rose Onions and Krishnapuram onions for quantity up to 10,000 MT each." This means exports of the two varieties of onions is allowed now, but only for a limited quantity. Also, the export of these varieties is allowed only from the port of Chennai.

The Customs authorities at the Chennai Port will allow export of Bangalore Rose Onions on the basis of a certificate from Horticulture Commissioner and registration certificate from Office of Additional DGFT, Bangalore.
