The EC opens consultation on Europe's organic agricultural policy

In September this year, The European Commission opened a new public consultation on the challenges and opportunities for the development of organic production and consumption in the EU. The consultation will be open until November 27 and the Commission will take into consideration when preparing its Action Plan for Organic Farming, which will be presented in the first quarter of 2021.

The EC committed in the Farm to Fork strategy and the Biodiversity strategy, which were published in May 2020, to having 25% of the EU's agricultural land devoted to organic farming to improve the sustainability of the food system and reverse the loss of biodiversity.

To this end, the Commission will prepare an Action Plan to support the organic sector, help Member States stimulate both supply and demand for organic products, and to ensure consumer confidence.

The Commission also delayed the entry into force of the new Regulation on organic production from January 1 of next year to January 1, 2022.
