Speciality vegetable is particularly popular with older private buyers

"Hungarian tomato peppers are a seasonal product par excellence"

The Hungarian tomato pepper is available again in specialist shops as of this week. "On Monday, the first batches arrived at our premises. However, it is currently difficult to predict how long the seasonal vegetables will be available. Usually the season only lasts a few weeks," explains a buyer from the wholesale company Fritz Ganz, based in Ingolstadt. The company carries the tomato peppers in its assortment every year.

The goods are purchased from a fixed partner at the Munich wholesale market. "Although the demand is not huge, it is an interesting niche for us as a specialist wholesaler nevertheless. As a rule, it is mainly older private buyers who use the vegetables for pickling or preserving," he continues.

The vegetable prices are currently between €3-4 per kg. "Last year, tomato peppers were traded a bit cheaper by comparison."
