Ecuadorian processed fruit finds its way into China's e-commerce

The WanaBana brand, specialized in fruit purees and pulps, has become the first Ecuadorian brand to enter China's e-commerce. Austrofood, the company that makes these products in Sangolqui, in the Province of Pichincha, will sell its products through Tmall and JD, the main e-commerce platforms in China.

Manuel Cornejo, an executive at Austrofood, said that they had participated in November in several events and visits to explore China's culture and business environment, and that -in February- they had found a distributor who was interested in the product's focus on the baby segment.

The company has already exported two containers of the product, with packaging that maintains the same brand. The product comes in a pouch with 90 grams of Ecuadorian exotic fruit. They are currently about to ship a third container with baby-oriented products.

The expectation is to sell at least 30 containers in the first year, Cornejo stated.

The company exports its products to 12 countries but plans to focus more on the US and Chinese markets.

According to estimates, the two e-commerce platforms have some 900 million active users.
