Guinea: construction of a potato processing plant in Mamou

The region of Mamou will now be equipped with a long-awaited processing plant to transform potatoes into frozen fries. This upcoming agro-industrial unit with an estimated production capacity of 1 ton per hour, will be constructed on the site of the old canning factory of Mamou, which closed more than 30 years ago. It will produce frozen fries in 1 to 2.5 kg packagings, and will reduce the amount of post-harvest loss, currently estimated at 40%.

On February 1st, 8 containers full of equipment were received to start the construction, which revived the hope of some workers from the city’s old canning factory. “Every other month, we were told that they would work on the old factory, but we never saw anything,” explained Thierno Boubacar Diallo, leading potato producer in Mamou. “We are proud to see its rebirth into a potato factory.”
