Morocco: difficult times for the potato

The Moroccan Potato Producer Association (PPM) is worried about the farmers’ financial situation. It estimates that most of them probably are “on the verge of bankruptcy” with losses at more than 1 million tons, of which 260,000 tons are in the Béni Mellal-Khénifra region and 130,000 tons in the Gharb region.

This situation will most likely get worse because of the current cold wave in the kingdom. Producers are asking for an aid plan, in order, among other things, to access seeds and fight against speculation.
