South Korean import of food products from China worth 4.8 billion in 2018

The South Korean Food and Medicine Safety Office announced that South Korean import of food products from China reached a value of 4.77 billion USD in 2018. The most popular import products were kimchi, salt, and hot peppers. The announcement further mentioned that South Korea imported 18.55 million tons of food products worth 27.4 billion USD from 166 countries. This is an increase of 9.7% in comparison with 2017.

South Korea imported the most food products from the USA, with a value of around 6.43 billion USD; food product imports from China reached a value of 4.77 billion USD; while food product imports from Australia were worth 2.4 billion USD. Numbers four and five on that list are Vietnam and Russia. These 5 countries together account for 58.1% of the value of South Korean food product import. In terms of import volume that list includes the USA, Australia, China, Russia, and Thailand. These 5 countries together account for 68.3% of the volume of South Korean food product imports.
