Moldova asks Russia for removal of trade duties on fruit and veg exports
During the course of his visit to the Omsk region, Moldovan President Igor Dodon said that he supports the abolition of trade restrictions between Moldova and Russia and proposed to abolish import duties on key export goods from Moldova, primarily agricultural products, in order to stimulate trade between the two countries.
Igor Dodon believes that these measures will allow the return of Russian-Moldovan trade to the level of 2013, when Russia, through the fault of the Moldovan government, imposed restrictions on the import of wine, fruits and vegetables from Moldova. So far, the efforts of president Dodon have resulted in a growth of mutual trade volumes, but these have not yet reached the levels achieved in the past.
"It is necessary to remove customs duties for at least 5-6 groups of goods. I suggested this to Vladimir Vladimirovich. We discussed this more than once. My next official visit to the Russian Federation will be in October. I hope that before that time we will meet with Dmitry Kozak, who is now the Russian head for trade and economic relations with the Republic of Moldova. If we get rid of the customs duties for 5-6 groups of great interest, like vegetables, fruits, canned goods or wine products, at least for a certain period, the volume of exports will grow exponentially," said Igor Dodon.
According to Dodon, in order to return to the level of 2013, Moldova must agree with Russia on lifting all restrictions on exports and allow any Moldovan enterprise to supply its goods to the Russian market.
