All fruits and vegetables on wholesale markets in Bulgaria recorded lower prices this week, except for tomatoes, according to the State Commission on Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets.
The Wholesale Food Price Index, which monitors wholesale food price movements, decreased slightly by 0.09 per cent to 2.270 points, compared to 2.272 points the previous week. The base index of 1.000 points was established in 2005.
Among vegetables, tomatoes rose by 15.19 per cent to BGN 1.40 (US$0.76) per kg. Dry onions recorded the sharpest decline, falling 15.04 per cent to BGN 0.96 (US$0.52) per kg. Potato prices dropped 12.13 per cent to BGN 0.96 (US$0.52) per kg, cucumbers fell 11.90 per cent to BGN 1.98 (US$1.08) per kg, and zucchini declined 11.42 per cent to BGN 1.26 (US$0.69) per kg. Carrots fell 8.18 per cent to BGN 1.15 (US$0.63) per kg, cabbage 5.05 per cent to BGN 0.94 (US$0.51) per kg, red peppers 4.87 per cent to BGN 2.05 (US$1.12) per kg, and green peppers 4.19 per cent to BGN 1.77 (US$0.97) per kg.
All monitored fruits also declined in price. Watermelons dropped 9.96 per cent to BGN 0.61 (US$0.33) per kg. Apples fell 5.78 per cent to BGN 2.61 (US$1.42) per kg, lemons 5.43 per cent to BGN 4.18 (US$2.27) per kg, peaches 3.93 per cent to BGN 3.97 (US$2.16) per kg, and grapes 3.62 per cent to BGN 2.86 (US$1.55) per kg.
