MSC adds South Africa–U.S. citrus route

Starting in October 2025, MSC will introduce an enhanced standalone service connecting South Africa to the U.S. East Coast, with a strong focus on supporting citrus exports during the harvest season. The new route underscores MSC's role as the only carrier offering a direct maritime link between the two regions, ensuring dedicated and consistent service for the citrus trade.

The improved service will feature eight vessels, including four new additions, operating on a weekly schedule to guarantee reliable transit. Notably, the service will include a call at the Port of Philadelphia during the citrus season, a key hub for South African fruit imports.

The port rotation for the new service is as follows: Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) – Durban – Cape Town – New York – Baltimore – Norfolk – Charleston – Freeport – and back to Gqeberha.

With this investment, MSC aims to strengthen trade flows and provide exporters and importers with a stable and efficient logistics solution tailored to seasonal citrus demand.
