CMA CGM is strengthening its air freight business with the acquisition of Belgian airline Air Belgium. The French group says it will retain all 124 jobs (72 pilots and 52 operational and support staff) and will keep the Air Belgium brand, "an emblematic company in the Belgian air transport landscape, combining local expertise and international standards in cargo transport."
"Operated from Belgium, these aircraft will enable us to build a range of services tailored to the needs of freight forwarders, shippers and the entire logistics ecosystem," according to a CMA CGM press release.
"Accelerating the expansion of the group's airline division in Europe and worldwide"
This acquisition strengthens the group's presence in Europe and worldwide, complementing the operations carried out at Paris-Charles de Gaulle by CMA CGM AIR CARGO, the group's specialized air freight division.
This acquisition is a continuation of the partnership established between 2021 and 2023, during which CMA CGM AIR CARGO entrusted Air Belgium with the operation of its four Airbus A330Fs from the Liège hub, before obtaining its own French air carrier certificate and establishing its operations at Paris-Charles de Gaulle."
