Emergent Cold LatAm, a provider of temperature-controlled food storage and logistics services in Latin America, has announced an agreement to acquire Brazilian logistics company Comfrio. The transaction remains subject to customary and regulatory approvals.
Comfrio, which has operated for nearly 30 years, was acquired in August 2023 by Aqua Capital's third private equity fund in partnership with Comfrio's management team. It is one of Brazil's leading cold chain logistics providers, with a network of 24 sites and approximately 420,000 pallet positions, totaling more than 2 million cubic meters of storage capacity. The acquisition excludes Comfrio's food service unit, which will continue under Aqua Capital's ownership.
According to Emergent Cold LatAm, the acquisition supports its strategy to expand operations in Brazil by incorporating domestic distribution services alongside its existing export infrastructure. The company stated that the transaction will also broaden its customer base and geographic reach.
Following the acquisition, Emergent Cold LatAm's portfolio in Brazil—including leased and managed facilities—will increase to 38 sites with approximately 2.9 million cubic meters of temperature-controlled storage capacity. The expansion adds operations in 12 Brazilian states, including new locations in Minas Gerais and Ceará.
Financial advisory for the transaction was provided by 44 Capital Finanças Corporativas. Legal counsel was provided by Bronstein, Zilberberg, Chueiri & Potenza Advogados and Lefosse Advogados.
