According to the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), Vietnam emerged as the 13th largest mango supplier to the US in the past year. The country saw its mango exports, both frozen and fresh, make inroads into the US market. Specifically, the average price for Vietnamese mangoes stood at 3,190 USD per ton in 2023, marking a year-on-year increase of 26%.
The breakdown of imports reveals a substantial growth in frozen mango imports from Vietnam, totaling 643 tons and valued at 988,000 USD. This represents an 84.7% surge in volume and an 82.9% increase in value compared to the previous year. On the other hand, fresh mango imports from Vietnam also showed positive momentum, reaching 500 tons worth 1.4 million USD, up 16.7% in volume and 38.2% in value.
Despite these increases, the import volume of Vietnamese mangoes into the US remains a small fraction of the US's total mango imports, with the majority sourced from Mexico, Peru, Brazil, and Ecuador.
