Lettuce, lamb’s lettuce, spinach, and leafy vegetables are among the flagship products of Les Sources, a company based in Maillane, in the south of France. Cultivated on 120 ha, under tunnels, and in open fields, the campaign started in mid-September. But the mild temperatures of the last few months have accelerated the production. “Our late varieties have arrived at the same time as the early varieties,” explains Enzo Perez.
Great quality and good sales
The sales of leafy vegetables are going very well this year. “We are lucky to have vegetables of very high quality this year, and our clients have followed us well.” The demand has been dynamic because of the lower supply, with “productions coming to an end in some areas. The summer temperatures that lasted longer than usual have helped the other production zones to extend their campaign this year.”
Pre-cut leafy vegetables, washed in water without cleaning products or preservatives. Trays for lettuce (250g), lamb’s lettuce (100g), and spinach (400g).
According to Enzo Perez, although the demand is good, a certain “consumer anxiety” can be felt. “We have been receiving fewer orders with smaller volumes, which gives us the impression that people consume less and tend to leave out fresh produce.”
