A new product from Retiplast presented at Interpoma

A thermoplastic film combined with netting to protect orchards from climate change and pests

Retilplast, a southern Italian company that manufactures, processes and markets nets, films and tarpaulins, will be presenting at the international trade fair Interpoma in Bolzano, located in northern Italy, its latest innovation in protective covers applied to fruit growing, namely protective films and tarpaulins, which can be chosen according to one's cultivation, combined with the anti-insect side netting by means of special welding. The aim is to protect the aeration areas of the covers from insects, with HDPE monofilament screening nets of various mesh sizes. (Click here for the brochure)

"The climate has changed, and seasonal trends will have a negative impact on agricultural production. Rising autumn and spring temperatures intensify insect populations, such as Mediterranean fly, Drosophila suzukii, aphids, etc. So far, nets and sheets were attached by stitching, but now we have introduced a technology that binds the net to the sheet by welding. It is a more precise process, with more flexibility, and one that allows us to provide options that were not possible before, thus allowing the farmer better and easier in-field installations," said Walter Ruggia, head of technological innovation at the aforementioned company.

For decades, Retilplast has operated in the design and production of covers to control and enhance solar radiation and protect crops. Primary goals are to increase diffuse light, thermal protection and the passage of UV A and B ultraviolet rays, key elements that affect the processes of chlorophyll photosynthesis.

"This new process for binding nets to rain screens has proved to be very durable, and any of the cover films in our catalog, which differ in their characteristics of permeability to solar radiation, can be combined with specific nets for each type of insect," continued Ruggia. "From the tests conducted in the laboratory, the breaking point was set at 94 kg. By welding, the finished product is more linear and flatter, with no difference in tension between mesh and sheet. Therefore, the rolls are also less bulky."

"The Interpoma exhibition is an important event for our company, one in which we have participated for several editions. We have scheduled appointments with European customers and installers every hour. Our agenda is packed."

Retilplast will exhibit at Interpoma in Hall G-1, Stand G-1/16.
