More and more often, exotic vegetables like broccoli, lettuce, cherry tomatoes, zucchini, pak choy, bell peppers and so on are catching the fancy of Bengalureans. According to a study conducted by researchers at Azim Premji University, the sale of exotic produce in the city has been steadily increasing. While around 18 tons of the exotic vegetable varieties were sold in 2014-15, it went up to 40 tons in 2020-21.
The data shows that nearly 9,150 tons of fresh vegetables were sold in the city in 2020-21 through HOPCOMS outlets, mobile stores and online platforms.
