According to the Association of Agricultural Producers Guilds of Peru (AGAP), Peru exported 2.55 tons of fresh pitahaya for 8.85 million dollars in 2021.
"We hope to export more pitahaya in the future to continue diversifying the Peruvian agro-export basket," said the president of AGAP, Alejandro Fuentes.
The main destination markets, by value, for Peru's fresh pitahayas in 2021 were Aruba with $3,960,000 (710 kilos); the Netherlands with $2,979,520 (1,260 kilos); France with $1,054,200 (280 kilos); Spain with $714,000 (240 kilos); Italy with $70,900 (20 kilos), and Switzerland with $70,800 (30 kilos).
Last year's fresh pitahaya exports were led by the regions of Lima with shipments of $5,483,500 (1,180 kilos), Piura $1,774,300 (720 kilos), La Libertad $1,205,222 (540 kilos) and Ancash $386,400 (100 kilos).
The National Agrarian Health Service (Senasa) has been working so that the fresh pitahaya from Peru have access to the markets of China and the United States.
