New Grab-N-Go bags for hot peppers see popularity in niche markets

This year, importer Delina Fresh has been seeing an interesting growth in the Latin and Oriental markets in the United States. The company imports a wide variety of products from Ecuador, Costa Rica, Honduras, Brazil and the Dominican Republic and has year-round programs for all of their products.

Expanding programs and expanding demand
“For the Latin market in the US, we have seen a great growth for our yucca, eddoes and malanga Lila and Blanca,” explains Deborah Dijkhuizen, Managing Director of Delina Fresh, adding: “For the Oriental markets, the Chinese eggplant, long squash, American and Indian okra, ginger, and turmeric are the most popular items,”.

This past year, Delina Fresh has worked on expanding their production in Latin America, and the Latin and Oriental markets in the US have responded well to the increase in product. “For our products from Costa Rica and Honduras, specifically, we’ve had an increase of 40% this year,” says Dijkhuizen. The growth of the markets has been in response to the growth in the programs, she shares. “The demand for these items grew as a result of our programs with our farms and growers. It was also due to our ability to deliver top quality products year-round and at competitive prices,” she says.

New Grab-N-Go bags
In addition to extending their import programs, Delina Fresh has also introduced new packaging for some of their products. “We have recently introduced Grab-N-Go packaging for some of our products. This is a new packaging option for our company, and we are working on expanding it to be available for more products to meet customer demand,” Dijkhuizen explains, adding: “We currently pack our hot pepper product lines in Grab-N-Go bags. This is new in this market, and it’s growing steadily.”

The Grab-N-Go packaging was introduced with an eye on consumer safety, says Dijkhuizen. “This was one of our biggest reasons for introducing these. The products are already hand-selected for quality and now are packed ready to go for the consumer. The packaging helps to protect the supplier, the retailer, and finally the consumer,” she explains.

Delina Fresh is also an organic certified packer and handler and have warehouses in both Florida and Texas. “Because of this, we’re able to allow for shorter transit times on our produce. We at Delina Fresh pride ourselves on providing top quality and service to our customers,” Dijkhuizen concludes.
