Aneberries' Tenth International Congress will be held from July 27 to 31 online and for free for all the people who register to participate in conferences and panels on various social media platforms.
At the presentation of this prestigious event, Jose Luis Bustamante Fernandez, the President of the Board of Directors of the National Association of Berry Exporters (Aneberries), spoke about the importance of berry production in Mexico, an industry that generates 400,000 jobs. Bustamante said that the production season had been good despite the pandemic and that, despite having logistical problems to export, they had ended the season with an average production of 400,000 tons, which he described as normal/good.
"In the 2020/21 season we will continue to grow, but not at the levels that we were growing before this pandemic. The most important thing for us was to take care of our workers, being socially responsible, and being able to offer Mexico and the world a safe, healthy, and timely product,” he stated.
The presentation event was also attended by Juan Jose Flores Garcia, the CEO of Aneberries; Cesar Ivan Silva Hinojosa, the president of Jalisco's Council for Agricultural and Livestock Development, and Mauro Jimenez Iñiguez, the general director of Federal Liaison for Strategic Projects of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (SADER) in Jalisco.
Multidisciplinary Congress
The leaders of Aneberries highlighted the great multidisciplinary nature of this pioneering congress, which will address various topics of interest such as the impact of COVID-19 on the berry industry, what an industry that claims to be sustainable should do, and FAO's vision of the world situation due to COVID-19, among other issues. Some of the phytosanitary issues that will be addressed include management alternatives for Duponchelia fovealis Zeller in strawberry cultivation, and phytosanitary regulations for berries in the EU and Brazilian markets, among others.
The congress will also address other interesting topics, such as National legislation on the use of agricultural water, COVID-19 and its impact on food safety in the berry industry, and Molecular microbiology as a tool to reduce the presence of pathogens in berries.
Two constructive alliances
In the remaining months of the year, Aneberries plans to make alliances with the North American Blueberry Council (NABC), one of the main associations in the blueberry sector, and the United Fresh Produce Association, the main association for fresh producers in the United States. These alliances will strengthen the presence of Mexican berries in the North American market and in the world.
