Nectarine production in Emilia Romagna is low, but the future needs to be taken into consideration. Daniele Neri Vivai has been receiving great feedback for the Romagna Big variety currently being harvested.
"Production is good, and so is flavor and size. The average grade is AA, achievable with proper pruning and thinning. Flavor is good with a high Brix level, but one needs to be careful about harvesting, as fruits become red way before they are ripe," explains Neri.

Fruits needs to be harvested at the right moment to obtain the maximum flavor. "Quantities are low due to the frost, but quality is very good, as in the past. Average grades are around AA and fruits keep well on trees, so that harvesting can be staggered to obtain the best grades."
As stressed multiple times, pruning and thinning are essential to obtain better quality and grades. "Consumers must be convinced with a good flavor, otherwise they will not make a second purchase. The fruit sector has been abusing the trust of consumers for too long."
