Wayki is a Chilean system granted exclusively to Valente Pali

Innovative open and close cover system that reduces orchard protection costs

Wayki®, the innovative open and close roofing technology that reduces the cost of orchard protection, designed and developed in Chile, has recently granted Valente srl of Campodarsego (Padua) global sales rights (except for South America), with exclusive rights for Italy.

"Wayki® is the only automatic and rapid waterproofing system - according to the company's statement - that protects cherry, kiwi and berry orchards, by opening and closing the cover like an umbrella, for an optimal management of the orchards. This innovative technology offers many advantages and, installed together with Valente's new Multi-Shield structure, represents a complete, effective, flexible and safe solution for farmers to protect their crops."

The particular layout of the sheets in this type of plant allows the operator to slide them on the frame structure, so as to manage the opening and closing as required, with the great advantage of letting the plants grow in the optimal way under normal conditions, and then cover them only when needed, or when there is actually a chance of rain.

Wayki® ensures that this operation is performed rapidly and effectively, allowing a single worker to close or open the covers in less than a minute on a 100 metre row or in 20 minutes on a hectare of land.

"The majority of automatic or semi-automatic systems available are expensive and require more manpower, as well as much longer working hours.

On a technical level, the Wayki® system is powered by a standard electric drill, it is installed on existing pole rows and may be used to activate roofs in Multishield systems."

This allows farmers to keep crops exposed to natural conditions for as long as possible, rather than the artificial microclimate created under the roofs, which results in firmer, sweeter fruit.

Currently, Wayki® has already been installed in several geographical areas, and has been tested on a wide range of different soils and microclimates and has always ensured excellent results to date.

Based on this achievement, new coverings are currently being developed which will enable producers to better respond to different climatic conditions, depending on the type of harvest and ripening phase.
