Overall banana imports for all importing countries rose 2.5% since 2014

Overall, the value of bananas imports for all importing countries rose by an average 2.5% since 2014 when international purchases of bananas were valued at $15.2 billion. From 2017 to 2018, imported bananas depreciated by -2%.

From a continental perspective, European nations consumed the highest dollar worth of imported bananas during 2018 with purchases valued at $8.8 billion or 56.3% of the global total. In second place were North American importers at 20.8% while 19.1% of worldwide bananas imports were delivered to Asian nations.

Below are the 15 countries that imported the highest dollar value worth of bananas during 2018:

Smaller percentages of globally imported bananas were bought by Latin America (2.3%) excluding Mexico but including the Caribbean, Africa (1%) then Oceania (0.4%) led by New Zealand.
