As some suppliers have suspended shipment to the Chinese local market, prices in the local market have slowly increased. However, the fluctuations in the local garlic market have not affected exports. “The total garlic production in China this year is about 6 million tons, about 2 million tons lower than last year. Although the weather in Shandong this year is quite dry, it has not significantly affected production. Our production is stable at around 4,000 tons, on par with last year," said Ms. Fang.
Europe, the Middle East, and Africa are Shandong Xuanyi Food Co., Ltd’s main markets for fresh garlic. "This year, our export volume is about 3,000 tons, an increase of about 10% over last year. Among the export markets, the purchasing potential of African markets has grown rapidly. So far, we have exported 500 tons of fresh garlic to these markets. Before being put into cold storage in September, the price of garlic first rose and then fell. Since the cold storage warehouses were opened in October, prices stopped falling and started to rise. Currently, FOB prices are 1,200-1,500/ton. Although garlic prices in China have been fluctuating violently, it has not affected exports. Chinese garlic has an appealing appearance and a spicy taste, which is very popular with overseas customers," Ms. Fang said.
