Guatemala organizes the Global Gap Tour 2019

Guatemala's Association of the Agricultural Chemical Guild (Agrequima) is organizing the one-day GLOBAL GAP TOUR event on October 2019, which will focus on good agricultural practices and how their implementation can improve the economic well-being of Guatemalan companies. The event will also delve into contemporary problems, based on solutions such as the add-on R4B Biosafety for bananas, GRASP (GLOBAL GAP Risk Assessment for Social Practices) and NIG V5.2 (national interpretation guides for Guatemala), among others.

This event aims to provide information on sustainability and good agricultural practices to different national and international actors in the sector, such as retailers, producers, and consumers.

According to the USAID brief report, "Sector Brief - Agriculture 2018", Guatemala's attitude to increase economic growth through the strategy of being a reliable exporter of non-traditional agricultural products (e.g., tirabeques, green beans, mini vegetables, and fruits) is extraordinary. USAID also highlighted the exponential growth of these products over the last decade, which has facilitated a favorable context for small producers and has laid the foundations for agricultural and economic growth in the country. This growth has also been the result of good agricultural practices and the needs of consumers, retailers, and other important actors within the primary sector.

GLOBAL GAP is the leading international standard for sustainability and food safety, so this certificate can have a great positive effect on small producers, connecting them with important national and international actors within the agricultural sector. The GLOBAL GAP conference that the TOUR will offer is a unique opportunity to learn about the products and services of this certification and to expand the networks of contacts with actors of the food system that operate in both national and international markets. The conference will address the following issues, among others:

How the GLOBAL GAP system can help improve food safety and good agricultural practices.
How the GLOBAL GAP standard can improve access to local and international markets.
How GLOBAL GAP services can help producers obtain certification more effectively.
How the GLOBAL GAP network of contacts can help reach other markets and important players in the sector

Guatemala's position in the international market is crucial and shows how committed producers are to implementing quality standards by producing in a responsible and sustainable manner, always considering the well-being of the environment.
