19% growth of Spanish horticultural exports to Canada

Spanish fruit and vegetable exports to Canada have grown by 19% in the first half of 2019, amounting to 45,429 tons and generating 45 million Euro. In the same period, EU sales have grown by 18%, reaching 62,575 tons.

Vegetable sales amounted to 8,060 tons, with cabbage, peppers and garlic being the most exported products. Meanwhile, fruit shipments reached 36,369 tons, with almost the entire volume corresponding to citrus fruits. A strong diversification of sales was observed in the second half of 2018, with the incorporation of almost all fruits and an increasing number of vegetables.

In order to boost sales in this market, with strong growth since the entry into force of the Global Economic and Commercial Agreement between the European Union and Canada, known as CETA, on September 21, 2017, FEPEX will be participating as a partner and exhibitor at the Annual Convention of the Canadian Produce Marketing Association, which will take place from May 12 to 14 of next year in Toronto. This is being done in the framework of the promotion agreement signed with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food. Furthermore, IFEMA and FEPEX are giving a boost to this country's participation in the international guest program of FRUIT ATTRACTION, which will take place from October 22 to 24 of this year, with 160 Canadian visitors expected to attend.
