North America mini sweet pepper production transitioning

Supplies of mini sweet peppers are expected to transition to different regions over the next month or so as the major Mexican growing region of Sinaloa begins to slow down. Production will move to milder climates and volume is expected to remain steady. Companies like Divine Flavor are about to start production in Baja California for the summer season.

"Most of our Sinaloa supply is coming to an end in May," said Michael DuPuis of Divine Flavor. "The Sinaloa season typically spans from mid-late November to the first week of May. We have some programs about to start up near Ensenada in Baja California, which will be kicking in to full production by the middle of May and into June. We also have some production in Sayula from June through September."

Good prospects for the upcoming season
All of Divine Flavor's mini peppers are grown in a greenhouse environment. However, weather still plays a big part and growers have reported overall good conditions so far this season, resulting in decent production. DuPuis also mentioned that the company's partner growers have provided an excellent platform in the way they have prepared their greenhouses.

"Things are looking very good for the season so far," he shared. "The weather has been favorable which has resulted in production running slightly ahead of schedule. We have great facilities in Baja with our own grower who has been growing a lot of commodities for us. We are anticipating a good season in both Baja and Sayula, with the mini pepper program to go strong through the summer period. It's a year-round program so it's important to be consistent."

Tribelli Mini Pepper program doing well
Divine Flavor's mini sweet pepper brand is called Tribelli. The company says it grows Tribelli Mini Peppers sustainably in greenhouses and they are available year-round. According to DuPuis, it has been quite a successful program since the company introduced it, and the view is that they'd like to continue growing the brand.

"We've had the Tribelli brand for a few years now and it's been a very good product for us," he said. "It's a program that we are quite fond of and something we'd like to continue seeing through. We have seven or eight different presentations available depending on the customer's requirements. These include 9x2lb bags, 12x1lb, 12x8oz, 12x 1 dry pint, as well as a 20lb bulk box. Mini peppers are versatile and can be enjoyed raw in salads or cooked and we have a few recipes online to help with that."
