Datterino tomatoes F1 increasingly demanded by the market

The cultivation of the new Fenix datterino tomato is in full production and its varietal name Miele ("honey"), not by chance, recalls the sweetness and the excellent organoleptic characteristics that characterize this product.

In the photo on the right: the elegant shape of the bunch and the fruit make this tomato an easily marketable product.

The managers of the Sicilian company state that it is the field that guarantees the success and, of course, success arrived pretty early for a product that is becoming the flagship of the company.

All the operators in the supply chain  are extremely happy with the Miele datterino. Rusticity, genetic resistance and productivity are the strong points appreciated by growers, while elegance, quality and taste are a real guarantee for the marketing and especially for the consumer, whose needs have been often neglected in recent years.

The Miele F1 is grown in hooked cultivation in Sicily, thanks also to the Rootpower F1 rootstock.

This variety is specifically designed for production in long inclined cycles for the autumn winter season. The suggested transplants in Sicily go from mid-August to mid-January and this can be done thanks to its excellent tolerance to low temperatures.

The Fenix managers commented: "It is exactly with such a cold and intense winter - like the one we are going through - that Miele is showing tolerance to cold and to the feared split of the fruits that the producers of datterino tomatoes know very well".

"It is truly exceptional - says Ivana Marchese, director of Fenix - a good and sweet datterino tomato, which tolerates this physiopathy so well. Moreover, its ability to tolerate the cold but also to recover from the first increases in temperature is really interesting.

"Thanks to all this and also to its rusticity, genetic resistance (TYLCV, nematodes) and productivity, producers certainly have a variety with great potential in their hands," continues Marchese. There are many companies that already cultivate this valuable variety in Italy and many in the rest of Europe that are trying it in their crops. We expect excellent results and we are convinced that we can give a real support in enhancing the territory, thanks to the excellent quality of this tomato.

The Miele datterino is presented with elegant bunches, a robust rachis and fleshy sepals that make the packages on the counters very attractive and easy to market. But the real success is to its flavor that attracts consumers, who buy again with enthusiasm.

Taste, colour, elegance and its excellent organoleptic characteristics have not gone unnoticed by large retailers. They are now more attentive to taste, and have already chosen it as a branded product.

Tests carried out in recent years have shown that the Securforce F1 and Rootpower F1 rootstocks work very well for the Miele Datterino, guaranteeing continuity of production, the maintenance of organoleptic characteristics and its typical shape.
