Trops, Spain's biggest mango marketer, is launching a digestif with which it aims to attract Spanish and European consumers. It is called Mangocello and is a mango liqueur, presented as a novel product, which will serve to promote Malaga as a tourist destination, as well as a leading area in the production of tropical fruits in the Iberian Peninsula.
Mangocello has just hit the market in recent days. It has an alcohol percentage of 26%. For its preparation, pure alcohol (vodka) is used without any botanical base, only ripe mango; that is, 300 grams of pulp per liter of liquor. "The biggest challenge has been to develop a digestif with the right amount of sugar. To this end, we have used mangoes with 26º Brix," explains the master brewer and distiller Antonio Montes Durán, who stresses that the product is one hundred percent from Malaga. The mangoes used for its production are those of the Osteen variety, grown by Trops members in the province.
The digestif is served very cold. The development of Mangocello has required numerous tastings in which Trops partners have participated for months. The result is a product that is fresh, pleasantly palatable, with an enveloping texture that leaves the consumer yearning for more. For Trops, which will distribute the product across Andalusia, Mangocello is also an ideal liqueur for cocktails.
