India urges US to lift ban on pomegranate arils import

Last Wednesday, Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh appealed to the United States to immediately lift the sanctions on the import of Indian pomegranate arils. US Ambassador to India Kenneth I. Juster called on Singh on the same sday to discuss ways to boost trade and bilateral relations in agriculture.

Singh requested Juster to strive for an immediate removal of the ban on Indian pomegranate arils, assuring him that India had made the necessary improvements in the production system.

According to sify.com, the Ambassador in turn assured him that the legislation related to the access of Indian commodities in the US markets would be finalised expeditiously in order to enable export of Indian table grapes to the US by November this year.
