China: Vegetable prices continued to increase between August 13-19

Last week (August 13-19), the Department of Commerce surveyed the wholesale price of vegetables in 36 large and medium-sized cities in China. The average vegetable price increased by 1% in comparison with the week before. 18 kinds of vegetables showed various degrees of price increase. The prices of Chinese cabbage, Napa cabbage, and cucumber increased by 8.5%, 7.8%, and 7.6% respectively. The frequency of typhoons and heavy rainfall influences vegetable supply from various regions. It is estimated that the price will continue to rise in the short term.
