Ecuador seeks better access to Chinese markets

On Wednesday, the Agriculture Minister of Ecuador said that better access to Chinese markets for its fruit products was one of the priorities in the cooperation between Quito and Beijing.

Ruben Flores, who took part in the International Bamboo and Rattan Congress in Beijing, met with senior officials in the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture and also discussed bilateral ties in the run-up to Ecuadorian President Lenin Moreno’s upcoming visit to China in September.

“Making the most of our president’s visit in September we want to establish this framework of understanding, going deeper into the matter of added value, agroindustry, mobilization of human talent and training, and above all, market access,” stated Flores.

As reported on laht.com, Flores added that currently they were working with the Chinese government on the classification of phytosanitary aspects of some key products such as pitahaya, avocado, bananas and pineapple.
