“The first new carrots from the Netherlands and Belgium will arrive in week 25,” says Dirk de Maré from Grimex. “In France, they started the new harvest two weeks ago. The carrot is doing well at the moment, it’s just thirsty. It hasn’t rained much in the west of Belgium for a while, and the first rain was predicted for last Sunday. It’s still positive right now, but it all depends on nature, and that can never be predicted.” According to the trader, there’s not much old carrot left in stock. “The Dutch agents say all the old carrot has been sold, but I don’t know if it’s all been processed yet. But it’s nice if all the old carrots have been sold, so that the new carrots arrive on a wonderfully empty market.”
The owners of the company are looking for a successor. “I’m 59 years old, and we don’t have any successors of our own for Grimex. We’re gradually starting to look for someone who could take over the company. We’ve already seen some candidates, but it’s difficult to find the right person. In the interest of our customers it’s important to find someone with experience and who enjoys the work. We’ve always greatly enjoyed the work. We were born and raised among the carrots, so it’s all we’ve ever known. The work is diverse, but speculative as well, there’s never any certainty. We hope to find someone who can continue our company,” Dirk and his wife Trui conclude.
