BLE Marktbericht KW23/18

The end of the asparagus season is getting nearer

The end of the season was getting nearer, quantities decreased, the air was now out of the trade and sales decelerated gradually. On the one hand, too many lots were coming in too often. Supply then clearly outstripped demand and there were surpluses.

The prices came under noticeable pressure, often dropping. Margins differed. Here and there, demand did not drop enough so that lowering the prices would have been inevitable. Sometimes there was enough demand to correspond with the supply. As a result, higher prices could then be established, growing by 40% in the most extreme cases. The green cultivars in particular were in demand, enough so that marketers could start increasing their prices.
