Northwestern Europe switches to Dutch broccoli for the coming week

Weather circumstances are causing a bumpy switch to the Dutch broccoli season. The cold spring and warm periods in recent weeks mean it’s difficult to predict what will be harvested. “Availability isn’t very considerable yet at the moment, and quality isn’t even either,” says Ruud de Koning from Brassica Trade. The Spanish season is reaching its end, and quality and availability problems can be seen there as well. This is reflected in prices. “These still have to settle, there are bad and good batches, and that has its effect on pricing.”

There’s not much demand right now as available produce finds its way to wholesalers and some exporters. As of next week, this will all change, according to Ruud: “That’s when the supermarket programmes start, and exporters for Northwestern Europe will then also switch to Dutch broccoli.”
