China: Carrot prices drop

The price of carrots has gradually dropped. The daily trade volume of carrots in the Wanbang Market is around 200 tons. The main production areas are in Shandong and Fujian. The supply volume to the market is excessive in the middle of the production season. Some carrots become unmarketable, and the overall price goes down. Current purchase methods are not the same as before. Previously, the contract was based on the harvest, but now it is based on the surface area of the plantation. This has led to a decrease in purchase costs, which in turn has lowered the market price of carrots. In addition, many local vegetables have entered the market in large volumes, for example peppers and eggplants. The demand for carrots has decreased as a result of this competition, and so the price further decreased.
