"Lotus roots are originally from India and were introduced to China centuries ago. Throughout its history, both the cultivation area and the export volume of lotus root have been steadily increasing. The cultivation base of lotus roots
"There are three main varieties of lotus root: lotus with roots, lotus with seeds and lotus with flowers. In China, the lotus of the southern part of the Yangtze River are planted in early March or April, while the ones in Beijing are planted in early May. Our lotus roots are from Hubei, the main cultivation area in China. The listing period starts in June and ends around next April.

"The lotus roots of the Hubei cultivation area are bigger and have better quality. The supply period is also longer than in other cultivation areas. If the cold chain is maintained throughout the whole process, the fresh period can last to 40 to 50 days. Therefore, they are especially preferred by the overseas market. Through Shenzhen Harbour, our lotus roots are mainly exported to countries such as the US, Canada, Singapore and Malaysia. Relatively speaking, the demands of the American and Canadian markets are larger."
