Mexico: Broccoli production in Puebla increases

Puebla's broccoli production ranks third in value at the national level, and second in area sown and harvested. In 2016, Puebla produced 41,257 tons of broccoli, and in 2017 they achieved 47,097 tons.

Based on information from the Agricultural Food and Fisheries Information Service (SIAP) of the Delegation of SAGARPA in Puebla, the production of 2017 reached a value of 158,993,000 pesos.

Broccoli can be produced in almost the whole country, but, the most important producing states are: Guanajuato, Michoacan, Puebla, and Sonora. The country exports 90% of the broccoli it produces to the United States, Canada, and Japan. The rest is for national consumption.

The municipalities with the biggest harvested area in Puebla are: Palma de Bravo (826 ha), Quecholac (379 ha), Los Reyes de Juárez (174 ha), Cuyuaco (160 ha), Libres (110 ha), Acatzingo (105 ha), and Tecamachalco (97.5 ha), to name a few. The entity of Puebla has 26 municipalities dedicated to the harvest and production of this vegetable, with a total area of ​​2,423.05 hectares.
