The price of Henan celery recently showed a downward trend. The main reasons are as follows: first, demand has decreased while supply has increased. The price last year was relatively high, which caused celery farmers this year to increase surface area devoted to celery plantation. The total area increased by one third this year. This naturally led to an increased supply volume, which in turn created a situation where supply exceeded demand, and the price consequently dropped.
Second, the celery from greenhouses gradually entered the market. The transport cost of Henan celery is lower than Fujian celery. Furthermore, the production volume from greenhouses and plantations increases every year. Henan celery is fresher and crispier than Fujian celery. Consumers prefer Henan celery. All of these conditions led to a price decrease.
Fujian celery is already in the middle to late stage of the season. Product quality is slightly worse. Henan celery has just entered the market and so the price will continue to be depressed, and in the short-term a price increase is unlikely.
