Slovakian support for factory establishment:

Help underway for Kenyan mango farmers

Mango farmers in the Kenyan counties of Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot and Baringo have been incurring huge losses due to a lack of markets. Soon this will be a thing of the past with the construction of a mango processing factory in the area. The factory is a partnership between the county government and the government of Slovakia, and is expected to be ready in April next year.

According to standardmedia.co.ke, the deal will also extend to education and health where personnel will be trained to boost their capacities. "Other than helping establish us the mango factory, the Slovakian government has also promised to help us grow and market macadamia,” said governor Alex Tolgos.

The new factory will have the capacity to process five tonnes of mangoes per hour. "This will cut losses the farmers incur because of factors such as lack of value addition and limited market access.”
