"After the first few positive tests, around 80 tons of produce will become available during the 2017/2018 season. Our expectations are very ambitious: yello® has what it takes to occupy a premium position in the supersweet variety segment, which is now mainly occupied by the Fuji variety," explains VOG Director Gerard Dichgans.
Yello® apples have bright yellow peel, firm texture and a crunchy juicy flesh. Shelf-life is excellent, as is quality. The first assessments carried out in Germany, Italy, Norway, Poland, Sweden, Spain and the UK during the past season led to positive results: clients mostly appreciated the colour, round shape, organoleptic properties and slightly exotic flavour.
"The yello® brand is currently registered in 60 countries worldwide, which is indicative of its potential. It will represent a turning point in the yellow apple segment, which has historically been dominated by a single traditional variety," added VI.P Director Joseph Wielander.
These first 80 tons are only the beginning of a project that is much more ambitious: over 160,000 trees will be planted between 2018 and 2019.
