High demand for large-sized Spanish onions
The Association of Onion Producers of Castile-La Mancha, PROCECAM, has held its 2017 General Assembly. The meeting has served to showcase the different projects in which the Association is involved and has also featured a round table discussion on the situation of the onion market in Spain and its development prospects.
The stored volumes this campaign are around 10% smaller than those of the previous season, with a quality that is considered good and about 35% consisting of large calibres.
Internationally, most concerns focus on the large European production of onions, which again exceeded 6 million tonnes. However, there are many doubts about whether all this production can finally be marketed, because the quality of the onion at the time of storage was not as good as in the previous campaign.
