Russia keeps open the option to increase Turkish tomato quota
Russian Vice-Premier Arkady Dvorkovich doesn’t rule out that the quota for tomato imports from Turkey could be increased, according to Ukrainian news site AgroConsult. The Vice-Premier has allegedly said this in response to questions from journalists. He did make it clear that this would only be the case if the current quota has been completely used up. According to Dvorkovich, that isn’t the case yet.
Russia opened its borders to 50,000 tonnes of tomatoes from Turkey. The first 19.4 tonnes were imported mid-November. Since then, a number of lorries filled with tomatoes crossed the border, although this was “definitely less than 50,000 tonnes.” Russia opened the border for three Turkish companies. The phytosanitary inspectorate is inspecting more companies that are interested in exporting to Russia.
