Diversity and innovation in Munich’s belly

Munich wholesale market: specialized and globally oriented

Despite the uncertainty about the future reconstruction plans, the Munich wholesale market area is still the largest, most important and diverse trading hub in Germany. Every night, gastronomic suppliers and wholesalers from home and abroad visit the 310,000 m2 Fresh Center, where they can buy their fresh fruit, vegetables and tropical fruits. From regional gardeners from the urban metropolitan area to broadly-based service providers with a complete world-wide range: fresh produce from all over the world is available in Munich.

At present, the wholesalers in the central hall are fully focused on the holiday season. Citrus fruits, Nikolaus apples, colorful salads and other special products like chestnuts dominate the stalls. Many shopkeepers at the local Christmas market buy their goods here at night. In addition to all this, in this hall there is on the one hand a broad mix of specialists, and on the other a wide range of service providers. Wholesaler Herbert Widmann, for example, has long been the market leader in the berry sector, as well as the Bavarian mushroom exchange for mushrooms of all kinds.

Next week we will report in detail about our visit to the wholesale market.
