According to the khmertimes, Chinese firm Green Island Ecological Agriculture has announced plans to export Cambodian bananas in the near future. Currently the company is in the process of obtaining the necessary sanitary and phytosanitary certificates.
Export plans are in the very early stages; the company is just beginning to plant over 500 hectares of land in Kratie province. In the near future, the Chinese company will be building a processing and a packaging factory for the fruit.
Green Island has already made a few shipments of the commodity to Europe to test the market. The company is now seeking to accelerate the process of meeting the sanitary and phytosanitary requirements of the Chinese market.
