Iran potato exports reach $19.4m in 5 months

More than 79,000 tons of potatoes worth around $19.4 million were exported from Iran in the five months to Aug. 22, an official with the Ministry of Agriculture said.

“Despite a 4,000-hectare decline in the area under potato cultivation, it is estimated that this year the production of the crop will increase by around 53,000 tons. Last year, close to 4.94 million tons of the product were produced in 150,000 hectares of farmland,” Hassan Asghari was also quoted as saying by the Young Journalists Club.

Around 875 tons of seed potatoes, worth more than 53 billion rials (nearly $1.64 million) were imported into Iran over the same five-month period, the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration announced.

The Netherlands with over $1 million was the main exporter, followed by Ireland, Germany, Denmark and France.
