China: North and South ginger markets are showing different trends

According to the voice of Chinese rural areas, zg3n.com.cn, areas of ginger production have increased significantly in the last few years because of ginger's rising market price. At the same time, China's ginger export is stagnating. A number of internal and external negative factors have caused a decline in ginger export prices. Since May 2017, the situation has started to change. In one month ginger prices increased by about 50%.

Beijing Xinfadi Price Department specialist, Zhang Junhua, says the main reason for ginger price increase in the South is weather conditions that affected the Shandong production area. In the North, it is only Tangshan city in Hebei Province, that is producing ginger. Ginger from Weifang city in Shandong appears on the market in May, while ginger from Tangshan can be available only from the end of August. In the near future, when ginger from Tangshan enters the market in larger volumes, the price will go down a bit.
