Ten weeks in a downward trend

Spain: Potato prices at origin close to levels recorded in 2014

The price at origin of potatoes in Spain has been falling for ten weeks after reaching its peak in late March (58.24 Euro/100 kg in week 16). It is now closer to 2014 levels, when growers reported that they were selling for prices below the production costs.

According to the latest national average agricultural prices, published by the Ministry of Agriculture, in week 26 of 2017 (from 26 June to 2 July), the price paid for to the grower for 100 kilos of potatoes stood at 17.55 Euro. That is, 20.47% less than in the previous week.

Exactly a year earlier, in week 26 of 2016, the price of potatoes stood at 39.11 Euro/100 kg; above the 26.14 Euro/100 kg of the same week of 2015 and the 18.91 Euro/100 kg of 2014, when Castilian producers estimated the minimum price to cover the production costs at 20 Euro/100 kg.
