Spanish delegation to visit the Chilean fruit industry

According to information provided by Charif Christian Carvajal, the Marketing Director of ASOEX for the Asian and European markets, "we are organizing a visit for a delegation of producers, exporters and importers from Huelva for November, in order to strengthen ties with the fruit export sector, and so that they get to know the reality of our fruit industry on the ground," said the professional.

Carvajal said that they had decided on the visit at a meeting held with representatives of the Provincial Council of Huelva, during his participation as an exhibitor on the 525 Anniversary of the Encounter between Two Worlds in the framework of the III International Congress of Soft Fruits organized by Freshuelva.

During his presentation, the representative of ASOEX highlighted the characteristics of the Chilean fruit sector and the specific evolution of its exports of blueberries, stating that Chile was currently the main exporter of blueberries in the world.

Carvajal also said that this was a fairly young industry, "but, little by little, it has been learning how to produce and how to export the product. Promotion is a very important factor because, nowadays, blueberries, unlike other fruits, have a very low penetration level in the international market, so we need to continue promoting this product."

Regarding success in blueberry exports, the professional indicated that "Chile is a very small country and we have always had the need to export. That need has pushed us to take our products to more than one hundred different markets in the world, to export more than thirty different species of fresh fruit, and to make the public and private sector work together to take our products to all corners of the world."

Regarding the participation of the sector in the event in Huelva, he said that this type of congress was very useful "as a platform to bring together different experts, producers and exporters to talk about these issues, and could even open up the possibility of some joint promotions between Spanish and Chilean producers."

The vice president of the Provincial Council of Huelva, Jose Luis Ramos, highlighted the presence of Chile at the event and stressed the importance of creating new marketing and promotional channels within Spain. They needed to develop international markets, as well as the reverse trade missions that have been developed in northern European countries, such as Norway and Denmark, and the one they will develop in Chile.

"In a year as important as that of the 525th Anniversary of the Encounter Between Two Worlds, we must also make this a starting point for the Business Meeting between the Two Worlds."
