Honduras will export eight to ten percent more melon to the international markets.
According to German Perez Destephen, a member of the board of the National Association of Industrialists (ANDI), Honduran melon exports to the Japanese market alone have already exceeded 120 containers.
Every year Honduran melon exports generate an income of approximately 60 million dollars.
The country ships its melons to the United States, European countries, Japan, and it will soon start shipments to Taiwan. However, the most demanding market at the moment is the Japanese market.
He said that the increase of the crop in the Honduran region will depend on the conditions and the international price of this fruit.
Last year, the country exported about 600 million dollars in melons.
